Eco-Savvy in Ann Arbor: Marketing Goods &Services

Ann Arbor has had a reputation of being a fairly Eco-Savvy little city for quite a while now. From clothing to restaurants to activities, chances are Ann Arbor has got the ‘green’ version. Now, more than ever, it’s essential to walk the road of the lowest-impact. What better way to get the word out about sustainability and eco-savviness then with useful and relevant marketing tools! I think everyone in the business realm can agree that the paradigm is clearly shifting towards going green. We then must focus on getting the word out to consumers about these new and improved eco-conscious goods and services.

For those located in the Ann Arbor area, I would highly recommend that you check out the restaurant Seva. Seva is a vegetarian restaurant that services a variety of locally grown and organic veggies. What better way to go green than to avoid meat and eat locally! Their food is excellent, if I do say so myself.

If coffee is more your thing, Roos Roast is roasting and brewing up your fair-trade certified beans locally! John Roos is a local Ann Arborite committed to providing high-quality cups of joe without compromise. He’s got an online store selling his hand-roasted beans, and even offers to deliver bags of goodness to you via bike. Roos is an excellent example of a local businessman committed to his craft who uses his skills, experience and marketing tools to offer Ann Arbor a local business unlike any other around.

Buying local is one way to go green. Another, is to make the switch to digital technologies and digital marketing. Ingenex offers an excellent way for businesses (local and otherwise) to get the word out about their goods and services. The eco-friendly intern team at Ingenex has also been working hard to make business around the office even more sustainable. Last weeks blog posts discussed this in greater detail. We all agree that eco-savvy in Ann Arbor is the way to be.

So until next time…

Week Two- Lots of Learning!

Week two of my time with Ingenex Digital Marketing has proven to be exciting and action packed. We spent our last session working with various Squidoo pages. Squidoo is a platform that allows for people to create pages (lenses) and add recommendations to a database of topics that one can search through. This was all very new to me; I thought it was really cool that a website exists where one can create a topic through their point of view (hence the term lens) for others to explore. You can include anything from relevant blog RSS feeds, to Amazon books, Flickr pictures and YouTube video clips to the lens you create. Essentially, it’s a nice little home for multi-media web content pertinent to your topic. I worked on creating the Eco-Friendly Internship Squidoo page, while Pedro concentrated his efforts on the Social Harbor page.

Jennifer and Amanda added our individual intern bios to the Eco-Friendly Internship page, so be sure to check those out too!

Lastly, we gained experience creating individual profiles on AboutUs. The site operates as a personal Wiki type page that allows your to post your own bio and link any relevant pages you should so choose. It’s pretty cool! I’m looking forward to seeing how each of these sites help me create my online presence.

I’m continuing to really enjoy my time at Ingenex. I find the work to be very engaging and interesting- I definitely can’t wait to see where this internship takes me. I also had the chance to attend my first LA2M meeting (Lunch Ann Arbor Marketing) last Wednesday. It was really great and inspiring to see local Ann Arbor Marketing professionals lend their expertise. This will be a great learning and networking opportunity no doubt.

Phew… that was a lot. Until next time!

Continued Adventures in Blogging

Like I said in my previous post, I am new to the rather extensive world of blogging. I’ve always read a few blog posts from time to time (most notably the Huffington Post.) This is a learning experience for me, so I beg you to bear with me as I get my feet on the ground! That being said, one of our assignment as a part of my fabulous eco-friendly internship for Ingenex Digital Marketing is to select three relevant blogs and to follow them on a day-to-day basis. The three I have chosen are:

micropersuasion: The blog of Steve Rubel that explores new technologies and their various impacts on marketing communications. I thought that this would be a great blog to follow- Ingenex is a marketing firm that specializes in technological forms of networking. I wanted to keep myself informed and up-to-date with technological aspects of marketing.

sustainablemarketing: As the title suggests, this blog discusses topics that fall on the green side of marketing. Being an Environmental Studies major who is particularly interested in eco-related things of all sorts, I thought that this blog would serve as an excellent resource to help me become further acquainted with sustainable marketing.

threeminds: A digital marketing blog. In the spirit of my internship with Ingenex, I thought I’d like to follow another more mainstream digital marketing blog. I thought this one looked pretty interesting and had articles on things that seemed interesting and relevant to my eco-friendly interning experience.

There you have my extraordinary blogging selection. I’m looking forward to learning from regularly subscribing to this series of blogs and using those skills to apply back to my own blog. Hopefully they will help give me a little extra digital marketing inspiration. So until next time…

My Introduction to Digital Marketing, Day 1

Welcome to my very first blog entry! Today marks day number one of my eco-friendly internship with Ingenex Digital Marketing in Ann Arbor. I recently graduated from Denison University with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and have moved back to my hometown to gain experience in life and work. I’m hoping this internship will help give me the skills I need to apply to my academic background in a relevant way in today’s digital world. This blog will help serve as a learning experience- both in terms of blogging as well as with the discussion of the digital marketing skills I will acquire. I am very excited to be here and can’t wait to learn more! Until next time.
